Xiaomi is methodically invading our lives - so much so that there are hardly any people who have not had something from Xiaomi at home. Simply because the range of services offered by the company is not just limited to smartphones or gadgets - they make clothes, household items, hygiene products, bags, and a bunch of other stuff. But personally, I use their bracelets - now I have the "fourth" version, which is extremely difficult to manage without the Mi Fit app. We are going to talk about it now.

Why you need the Mi Fit app

In general, Mi Fit is an "aggregative" app that collects data from your devices: your bracelet (all Mi Band versions), watch (Amazfit Verge Lite and Bip+Lite), scale (like Composition Scale 2) and smart sneakers (all Smart Shoes on the market, including non-Xiaomi ones). It can also track your activity from your phone; you have to give the app access to do so.

Initially Mi Fit was needed to download data from the bracelet to the phone - recall that the first version of the Mi Band had only 3 light indicators, no screen was out of the question, so everything that the bracelet tracked was synchronized with the app. But even now, those controls that are on the Mi Band 4, for example, are not enough for offline use, so you will still connect to the app. Globally, the app does the following things: gives you advanced information on your workouts, gives you the ability to activate certain features of your devices, and updates the devices' firmware. At the same time it has as simple an interface as possible, although not always intuitive, which somehow does not critically improve over time.

It was logical to make the "workout" section the start page - that's what the developers did, as a result, all the data that are synchronized between the tracker and the app are shown as soon as you enter the app. It is possible to see the number of steps taken, sleep time, last heart rate and last weight. Additionally (if you get a scale) you can access a body score and balance - the app will give you a breakdown of subcutaneous fat, muscle mass, and so on. Here you can also switch between workouts, if any - running, walking or biking. Recall that the bracelet does not have a built-in GPS sensor, so when you start a workout from the bracelet, it commands your phone to track your location. Clearly, you won't get a GPS report without your phone - that's a big problem, really, so in that case you can just run with your phone.

So, the app displays useful information - time, average pace, number of calories burned, average heart rate, steps, cadence. Mi Fit analyzes the quality of your workout - aerobic or anaerobic exercise, its intensity (based on heart rate data). For the most part, this data just looks solid and cool - all sorts of graphs and tables, their practical application is limited to a couple of indicators, the rest in the workout is simply not needed.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - the app also shows you a series of achievements - how many days in a row you "walk" a given number of steps. It's a nice feature that also keeps track of how many people using the app you "beat".

The second tab, friends, is not the most popular in the app. The point is that you can add friends and compete with them - who walked the most, who dropped the most, who has a more stable heart rate. Unfortunately, almost everyone ignores this "social app," including me.

The third and final tab (yes, the developers didn't overclock at all) is called "Profile", and just here you can connect devices to the app, set goals, work with the list of friends, and customize the logic of the devices.

How to set up Mi Fit for Mi Band

After connecting your device to the app, you can "fall" into the settings of the bracelet itself. Inside we see the following parameters:

Bracelet screen settings - we remember that the new bracelet has a full-fledged color display, which displays all kinds of information. So, we can customize the menu of the fitness tracker - remove or add sections that we will use: the watch face itself, bracelet status, heart rate, training, weather, notifications and additional parameters. If some elements are unnecessary, you can put them in the "hidden" section, and then they will not appear on the Mi Band display.

You can also install a custom watch face in the app, but despite the large number of them, there aren't very many really decent ones. You can download a watch face from the Internet and, for iOS devices, install the Amazfit app, through which to "roll up" the new display. Through the Mi Fit, unfortunately, you can not do this, because the app is designed for training and tracking the processes of your activity, not for customizing the device.

You can set the vibration for an incoming call, display contact information on the display, and you can put a delay on the vibration, so that the tracker vibrates not instantly. Similarly, events from the calendar, alarm clock, display of notifications and reminders about the warm-up - if you sit for a long time, the bracelet makes you move around a bit, a similar function (much more pumped up) is also available on the Apple Watch.

Additionally, through the app, you can find the bracelet if you lose it - triggering the corresponding function makes it beep. The location of the bracelet on the left or right wrist, bracelet activity, night mode, constant heart rate tracking, vibration pattern are also set up here. In general, the menu is very large, you can hang here for a long time.

Overall, it's worth noting that Xiaomi has very rightly created an app that collects your health data - you can watch your progress in one place without jumping into different programs. I've already ordered a few more devices to test, and I'll be sure to share my experiences with them soon.
